Order Graph

The order graph plots selected items (individual items can be excluded in the Artifacts/Assemblages table) with their computed seriation order along the vertical axis and their user input order (Index) along the horizontal axis. Ideally, if the user input order is correct, the plot for a good seriation should fall along the diagonal (use Show Diagonal to include the diagonal in the plot). Right clicking anywhere on the graph will bring up a popup menu that gives a range of options for manipulating the graph.

Order Graph Popup Menu

There are five items on the order graph popup menu.

Hide Graph will close the window containing the order graph.

Show/Hide Diagonal will show (hide) the ascending diagonal of the graph. In a perfect seriation the data points will lie along the diagonal, if the user input order (Index field in the Artifacts/Assemblages table - see Errors) is correct.

Show/Hide R2 will show (hide) the R2 value for the graph. R2 is the coefficient of determination, a statistical measure of how well a model approximates the data, in this case how well the computed seriation order approximates the user input order (Index field in the Artifacts/Assemblages table - see Errors). An R2 of 1 indicates that a model is a perfect fit to the data.

Set Axis Labels allows the user to set the axis labels. The default value for the X axis is User Order (Index) and for the Y axis is Computed Order.

Save Graph saves the graph to a separate graphics file. The graph can be saved as a graphics file in a variety of formats (GIF, JPEG, PNG, BMP, TIFF, EMF).
